Meet our Founder

Michelle R. Hendrix-Nora is the Founder of Rising Phoenix Academy (RPA), an innovative faith-based, place-based school model designed to empower students through academic excellence, cultural identity, leadership development and social-emotional wellness. Middle schoolers with a college-bound mindset are essential for laying a strong educational foundation. Grounded in the e5 Blueprint Model, Engagement, Enthusiasm, Exposure, Experience, and Exploration - developed by Hendrix-Nora - RPA prepares scholars to rise above challenges, discover their purpose, and become transformational leaders who positively impact their communities and the world.

With more than 25 years of experience in education and community leadership, Michelle has dedicated her career to creating equitable opportunities for students and families. As a teacher, principal, special education leader, coach, and mentor, she has led school improvement initiatives focused on increasing student achievement, strengthening school culture, expanding family engagement, and removing barriers to success. She is passionate about developing educational environments where students feel seen, valued, challenged, and inspired to achieve their fullest potential. Michelle holds degrees from Hampton University, the Academy of Art University, and Northwestern State University. Her unique educational journey provides her with a diverse perspective on creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and student development. This interdisciplinary background has shaped her belief that education should nurture the whole child by combining academic excellence with leadership, cultural identity, critical thinking, and real-world experiences. She also holds certifications in educational leadership, equity and justice, special education, and online teaching. Committed to lifelong learning and continuous improvement, Michelle is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Management.

Beyond her professional leadership, Michelle is a devoted advocate for underserved youth and communities. As a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she continues the legacy of excellence modeled by the founders. She is not only the founder of RPA but also the founder of H.E.A.R.T.S. (Help Educate At-Risk Teenage Students) and a co-founder of the Rising Knights HBCU College Tours. Her commitment to service, mentorship, and educational equity has earned her numerous recognitions, including the Nina Simone Community Leader Award, Wisconsin's Most Influential Black Leaders recognition, the YWCA Racial Justice Award, the Beloit Hometown Hero Award, the Herb Kohl Teacher of the Year Award, and the YWCA Women of Distinction Award. Michelle believes that authentic relationships, cultural pride, and high expectations are the foundation of student success. Through Rising Phoenix Academy, she seeks to cultivate resilient, purpose-driven scholars who are prepared to lead with courage, serve with compassion, and transform their communities for generations to come. Mrs. Hendrix-Nora is committed to making a difference, starting in her hometown.
